Library Student Assistant, Level I, #125
Bancroft Library
$10.60/hour
10-16 hours per week
SPECIFIC WORK HOURS: blocks of not less than 2 hours, 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday WORK STUDY ONLY

Duties:
Assist with arrangement and description ("processing") of manuscripts collections: perform initial sorting, determine appropriate arrangement of records within folders and folders within collections, describe collection contents, check collections against descriptive listings for accuracy, create accurate collection listings. Also involves some lifting.

Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills, neat handwriting and printing, care in handling paper and other materials, proficiency in word processing, special emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to concentrate, self motivated, the ability to carefully follow written and oral instructions and to communicate clearly and concisely in person and in writing. A background in 20th Century United States History a plus. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

Special Notes:
The interview, as well as all work by the student, will be conducted in Room 415 of the Marchant building at 6701 San Pablo in Berkeley

SPECIFIC WORK HOURS: Mon-Fri 9:00am-5:00pm WORK STUDY WORK

Duties:
Process items as they are received in the daily work flow of the hardcopy newspapers; check in newspapers, using Millennium, the libraries new integrateled library system.. Work with word & number charts to translate dates and issue numbers from a wide variety of languages (Cyrillic, Arabic, Persian , South Asian Languages) into a western format. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned:

Qualifications:
Must be detail oriented; organized; able to prioritize work independently, have a sight recognition or title page familiarity of Western European languages: Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Technical Services
$10.60/hour
12 hours per week
SPECIFIC WORK HOURS: Mon-Fri 8-5 WORK STUDY preferred

Duties:
Search OCLC Database as First Search to find exact match copy for books in ARabic. Us Millennium to verify call numbers in OCLC do not duplicate call numbers already in UCB collection. Move books from shelves to book trucks and from book trucks to shelves. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Type 50+ WPM knowledge of Arabic is required. Attention to detail
