Deliver and pick up mail and books from 18 branch libraries, sort and meter mail. Deliver mail to Doe/ Moffitt Library departments. Drive a 3/4 ton cargo van. Meter and process mail.

Northern Regional Library Facility

Duties:
The Northern Regional Library Facility (NRLF) is a purpose built storage facility, housing library materials belonging to the northern UC campuses. Currently, there are over five million volumes stored on eleven floors. The Deposit Services unit receives and processes new deposits into the facility.
Processing new deposits: 1) Physical prep: identify, categorize, sort, size, count and shelve materials. 2) Accessioning into Gladis: Search Gladis and add NRLF barcode to correct record. Identify problematic items as defined in guidelines and refer them to appropriate staff.
Qualifications:
Required: PC experience using Windows. Must be able to move carts and book trucks weighing up to 480 lbs; lift and bend with boxes weighing up to 40 lbs; climb and reach using stepstools or ladders; learn to locate material using NRLF barcodes and maintain a high level of accuracy in all tasks. Desirable: Experience searching on Gladis (UC Berkeley's online catalog) or other library catalogs.
Special Notes:
NRLF is located in Richmond, about 30 minutes from campus. THIS IS AN OFF-CAMPUS JOB. NRLF is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are NO weekend hours available. Must be able to work at least 3 hrs on a given day. Regular shuttle service available to/from campus.

Preservation - Bindery Prep

Specific Work Hours: Flexible between 10 AM and 4 PM, Monday through Friday. NO EVENING OR WEEKEND HOURS.
Duties:
Process binding material to the University Bindery, route newly-bound books back to libraries, and maintain quality control of bindery orders. Determine binder's titles and produce binding slips on computer. Some light shelving/lifting.
Qualifications:
Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, GLADIS and other Library online systems; good typing and organizational skills; attention to detail, reliability and accuracy required; familiarity with a European language and Cyrillic alphabet desirable. WORK STUDY ONLY!

Specific Work Hours: To be arranged around your class schedule between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday only. THERE ARE NO EVENING OR WEEKEND HOURS FOR THIS JOB.
Duties:
Process incoming periodical issues received which includes: opening mail; check-in new serial issues, claim missing material & lapsed issues using the Innopac/Millennium serials control system, identifying and referring problems to career staff. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
ABILITY TO READ ARABIC OR PERSIAN REQUIRED. Aptitude for accuracy and detailed work are absolutely essential to this position. The ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions are a necessity. Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision and performing work following established procedures. Must be reliable and able to maintain a work schedule of a minimum of 10 hours per week.. Familiarity with Western European languages desired.
Special Notes:
You may be asked to lift boxes up to 25 lbs and push heavy book trucks.
